The Lower Lonsdale BIA and LifeSpace Gardens have teamed up to engage businesses in The Shipyards District to host urban gardens out side their place of business. Each business has a Garden Champion who is dedicated to caring for and encouraging the community to interact with the garden. The intention of the initiative is to connect the community through growing food together!
Wes Hooper, Co-Founder of LifeSpace Gardens, lead the initial planing party on June 5, with the notion that “Communities the Grow Together, Grow Together”. Gardens in many communities often become gathering places that encourage connection and it is the ultimate hope that the Shipyards Garden District will be a catalyst for the community to come together through bringing food into urban spaces.
Here at the Chamber, our box is called “Shipyard’s Tomato Sauce” and features basil and tomatoes! In the first couple of days of having the box outside our window, it has already invited numerous folks to wander over and have a look. We’re excited to be part of this exciting inititaive and look forward to engaging with garden visitors!
